St. Kevin’s 5-15 Clan Na Gael 2-5

On a beautiful evening for football, St. Kevin’s U15 played host to the first round in their championship season against visitors Clan Na Gael. St. Kevin’s lads got off to a flying start with a quick free point from Conall Mannion just moments into the game. Whilst the lead was shortlived the Clans managed to take a four-point lead until an impressive goal from full forward Conor Doheny stopped the visitors in their tracks. From this moment onwards, the lads were able to retain a lead in the game until the final whistle. The Kevin’s not to be slowed down, created another scoring opportunity which Oisin Prout took full advantage of scoring a goal of his own moments later.

Liam Magee and Finn Carter finished off the first half with a goal and a point respectively. The lads created some fantastic scoring opportunities, facilitated by Paidi McCabe, Cormac Callan, Connall Mannion, and Finn Carter, with some well-timed support from Conor Byrne and Cillian Boylan.

Paidi McCabe opened up the second half with a fantastic point after maintaining and creating many scoring opportunities throughout the game.  The second half remained a competitive game, however, our defensive lines were able to thwart many scoring opportunities for their opponents. Daire Matthews proved to be an impressive force in the midfield, leaping to great heights that many of his taller counterparts managed. Our backs consisting of Alan Gregory, Christian Leddy, Cameron Ryan, Oisin Prout, and Karl Curtis all worked like a well-oiled machine shutting down attempt after attempt from their opponents well marshaled by Daniel Woods in goal. Liam Magee came into his own for the second half, placing himself repeatedly in the right position at the exact right moment, scoring three points throughout the second half, a tally matched only by Conor Doheny.  Conor Byrne scored a fantastic goal, despite being held back by three-four players to little effect. With the lads on such a roll their conversion rate was much improved in comparison to the first half.

Team List: Daniel Woods, Alan Gregory, Christian Leddy, Cameron Ryan, Daire Matthews, Oisin Prout (1-0), Karl Curtis, Conall Mannion (0-3), Finn Carter (0-2), Cormac Callan, Paidi McCabe (0-2), Liam Magee (1-3), Cillian Boylan, Conor Byrne (1-0), Conor Doheny (2-5). Subs: Harry McArdle Lynch, Pearse Gorman, Tadhg Meade, Paul Meehan.

The lads will go on to play Round 2 against Kilkerley Emmets/Naomh Malachi, Monday the 5th of September away to Kilkerley. Best of luck to the lads and their mentors for the coming season!
