St Kevin’s: (9-14) Cooley Kickhams: (9-13)

The U13 team had a fantastic evening of football when they played host to Cooley Kickhams for 7th round of the Division 2 League last night. The Kevin’s were first out of the blocks with Lorcan O’Connor who scored an impressive goal within a minute after the first whistle, Jack Ruane also quick on the mark scored the first of his goals only a minute later. The duo racked up 3 goals and 2 points before there was a response from their visitors.

Conor Brennan and Cillian Boylan took every opportunity given to them and were excellent at breaking the ball and ensuring it landed in the waiting hands of Jack Ruane, Lorcan O’Connor, Jude Bellew and Peter McKenna. The two midfielders also racked up some impressive scores themselves.
The second half was a closely contested affair, where Cooley battled back
to close the 8 point lead down to a one point difference. Whilst Cooley took more scoring opportunities, they were unable to achieve the conversion rate of the Philipstown lads.

This was in part due to some brilliant point blank saves from Paddy King and some excellent displays of teamwork from the defensive line consisting of Karl Curtis, Brian Callan, Jamie Johnson, Brian Callan and Matthew Forde. Matthew stepped up in the teams moment of need missing a few of their key players and slotted in as a crucial member of the team.

To the credit of both teams, all the players on the pitch give it their all despite the high level of contention throughout. The Philipstown lads go on to play the 8th round against the Sean O’Mahony’s on the Point Road the 2nd of July at 7pm.

Team List: Paddy King, Karl Curtis (0-1), Jamie Johnson, Matthew Forde, Brian Callan, Cillian Boylan (2-0), Conor Brennan (1-1), Jude Bellew (1-0), Jack Ruane (1-9), Peter McKenna, Lorcan O’Connor (4-3)
