KEVINS LADIES FIRST WIN IN THE LEAGUE

St. Kevin’s (4-9) Dreadnots (1-17)
The ladies football team had their first league game yesterday morning at home against the Dreadnots. A tough encounter for both sides, with both teams eager to gain points on the table straight away. The Dreadnots kept possession in our defensive line, keeping our backs extremely busy, particularly in the first ten minutes. However, Julie Guinan opened up the scoreboard for the Kevin’s, followed by a goal from Susan Byrne, which kept the girl’s nose just ahead.

Halftime was a welcome reprieve for the girls, as the visitors began to pick up the pace into a purple patch scoring five points in the last four minutes before the whistle.

Halftime was a welcome reprieve for the girls, as the visitors began to pick up the pace into a purple patch scoring five points in the last four minutes before the whistle. With some incredible defence from the backs Mary Taaffe, Niamh Murray, Mary Lynch, Claragh Cunningham and Amy Fagan, and a number of penetrating runs from both our full back and half back line with Danielle Brennan and Katie Doheny, we started the scoreboard ticking again.

Our midfield duo Vanessa Brennan and Mia Duffy had great moments covering for defence when they went forward, bringing opportunities to our forwards Aoife Gregory, Lucy Sheridan and Susan Byrne. Overall a really dogged, intensive and resilient performance where everybody put their bodies on the line. As the saying goes, goals win matches and Roisin Maguire scored two fantastic goals ten minutes before the final whistle to ensure a win for the Kevin’s.

The team will go to play Roche Emmets next Sunday 3rd July away in Roche at 11am.

Team List: Cara Lynch, Mary Lynch, Niamh Murray, Mary Taaffe, Amy Fagan, Claragh Cunningham, Danielle Brennan, Mia Duffy, Vanessa Brennan, Julie Guinan, Susan Byrne (1-1), Lucy Sheridan, Roisin Maguire (2-5), Aoife Gregory (1-2), Katie Doheny.

Rinky Kelly for Julie Guinan, Lauren Gregory for Amy Fagan, Anna Johnson for Mary Lynch.
