St. Kevin’s 1-15 Roche Emmets 0-5

St. Kevin’s picked up another vital 3 points in the battle for promotion as they secured their 9th win of the season against Roche Emmets last night.  It was clear from the first whistle to all spectating that the Kevin’s defenders took control of the pace and tone of the game. Only allowing 3 opportunities for scores for their opponents, of which they managed convert one point the entire first half. This impeccable show of force gave McNamee’s half backs and midfield the opportunity to showcase some great displays of skill. Paul Duff intent on continuing his impressive work this season off the back of a brilliant game against the Gaels was unfortunately halted ten minutes into the first half with a ligament injury, Tom Matthews was brought on to replace the full forward.

It was toss up for man of the match, however two noteworthy mentions go to Shane Meade who kept up his excellent run of form and Evan Maher who stood up in the absence of Seanie Crosbie.

Whilst the Roche Emmets were previously able to grind out a second half comeback with a similar gap in the half time score. This time however, they were unable to see any chance of closing the gap in the scoreline. Similar to the first half, the Philipstown men showcased some efficient attacking play throughout, which resulted in some fantastic scores.

Sean Powderly made his debut in the full forward line, along with the welcome return of James Kieran, Caolan McMullen and Adam Khan. Josh Finlay previously positioned in goals for the team took charge in the midfield for the first time and brought new energy to the field.

As a brilliant closing moment for the game, TJ Doheny having spotted a gap in the defense. He took his chance following a hand pass out the field, took a solo run up the middle of the field and made a point blank attempt on the Roche Goalkeeper, who to his credit managed to block the first attempt. TJ, not wasting any time, jumped on the rebound and the ball rattled the back of the net.
