St. Kevin’s 2-13 Roche Emmets 1-9
The Kevin’s mens team travelled to neighbouring club St. Mary’s Ardee to face their intermediate semi final in the hopes for a positive result. Whilst the Kevin’s may have been the slight favourites entering the fray yesterday evening, tensions were high on both sides, both determined to prevent an early lead.
Cameron Maher made very clever use of the breeze with a free from the right flank for the first score of the game, just moments into the game, which Roche were quick to reply with a point of their own minutes later. The lively TJ Doheny drove the ball high and over the bar to put the Kevins back in front moments later.
After their opponent’s second point, which levelled the game, Shane Meade and Lee Crosbie both scored fantastic goals in quick succession after which the Philipstown men never looked back
Seanie Crosbie played an integral part in both majors, including stopping low to win a Roche kickout, before sending in a long, searching ball into the square, which was gathered by Lee Crosbie who held off Roche defenders, before crashing the ball to the roof of the net.
With a lead of four points at half time, a comfortable passage into the final was definitely not a given for the Philipstown side. However, 15 minutes into the second half, the accurate shooting of Lee Crosbie who finished with 1-6, put some daylight between the sides. Evan Maher also got in on the scoring act, along with two more impressive TJ Doheny strikes, ensuring the Kevins’ passage through to the Intermediate Championship final.
St Kevins take on Cooley Kickhams in the Intermediate Championship final on Sunday October 2 at the same venue Ardee St Marys at 4pm.
