Oliver Sands, the eldest son of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Sands, Dromin Junction, died unexpectedly at the tender age of 23 on the 7th February 1969.  Oliver was described as an “extremely popular, obliging and able person.”  

 

Oliver was educated at Stabannon N.S, Ardee De La Salle school and went on to further education in St. Patrick’s Agricultural College, Monaghan, where he graduated with the hopes of becoming an agricultural inspector. A job which he secured with the Dept. of Agriculture a few short weeks before he passed away. Oliver taught for a brief period in Dromin School covering a maternity leave, and at one point taught three of his younger siblings, Terence, Aine & Rita.
