SHERIDAN CLOSES WIN FOR KEVIN’S LADIES

St. Kevin’s 3-11  Roche Emmets 2-10

Our ladies’ team traveled to Roche yesterday morning for the second game in their Division 2 league. Both teams showcased some fine attacking football, however, St. Kevin’s were more effective with converting their chances. The Kevin’s were quick off the block, racking a 6-point lead in the first ten minutes, with goals from Lucy Sheridan and Mia Duffy, and points from Katie Matthews and Susan Byrne with little response.

On the resumption, the hosts were determined to close the gap in the scoreline putting some serious pressure on our midfield and defense line scoring 3 points in the first 4 minutes. However, Aoife Gregory disrupted Roche’s purple patch with an impressive goal chiseling a gap in the scoreline again.  A second attempt at a successful run by Roche was once again interrupted this time by Katie Matthews, our half-back who scored a point, her second that day.
Despite the continuous force of pressure from their hosts, goalkeeper Cara Lynch marshaled her defenders consisting of Niamh Murray, Claragh Cunningham, and Niamh Murray, all of whom made some brilliant blocks, preventing what would have been crucial conversions for Roche Emmets.
Our half-back Katie Doheny intercepted balls right, left, and centre and alongside her cousin, Vanessa fielded the ball effectively throughout the game, finding the waiting hands of Susan Byrne, Mia Duffy, and Lucy Sheridan.

Forwards, Susan Byrne, Rinky Kelly, Lucy Sheridan, and Julie Guinan performed like a well-oiled machine, letting the ball in and producing some brilliant scores, Lucy Sheridan landed in a fantastic rhythm of scoring points every couple of minutes and scored the final point to ensure a Kevin’s win.

The ladies will go on to play their third round in the league against Naomh Finbarr’s at home Sunday 10th July at 11:00am.

Team List: Cara Lynch, Amy Fagan, Claragh Cunningham, Niamh Murray, Katie Doheny, Katie Matthews (0-2), Vanessa Brennan, Eimear Murray, Leah Cunningham, Mia Duffy (1-1), Susan Byrne (0-2), Lucy Sheridan (1-5), Rinky Kelly, Aoife Gregory (1-1), Julie Guinan.  Subs: Danielle Brennan for Amy Fagan, Lily Carter for Julie Guinan.
