St. Kevin’s (3-1) Mattock Rangers (5-8)

St. Kevin’s ladies hosted their neighbouring club Mattock Rangers in the 5th round of the U15 League Group B. The Kevin’s girls got off to a flying start with an early goal from Amy Murray. Despite the Kevin’s having a fantastic run with some great opportunities from Grace King and Tara Reilly, Mattock were determined to close the gap in the scoreline as quickly as possible.

The first half was consistently competitive with multiple occasions where the scoreboard was levelled, however Tara Reilly and Amy Murray were able to ensure a significant lead with a purple patch minutes before the first whistle with a halftime score of St. Kevin’s (1-10) Mattock Rangers (1-5).

Throughout the game, there were some impressive scoring opportunities created which lead to some fantastic scores. Scorers on the night were Danielle Brennan, Amy Murray, Mia Brennan, Tara Reilly (who scored some brilliant points from impossible angles) & Abbie Forde.

The second half remained competitive with the visitors experiencing a purple patch at the latter end of the second half. However St. Kevin’s kept enough pressure on their visitors to prevent a closure on the scoreline. This was a fine team performance from Aoife Carroll in goals whose kick outs continued to find a Kevin’s player, our full back line of Aoife Lynch, Caoimhe Brennan and Aoife Fogarty, who defended so well as a unit shutting down so many scoring opportunities, our half back-line of Kate Johnson, Sophie Cunnignham and Nikki Cunningham who had brilliant performances moving the ball up the field. Our midfield of Grace King and Danielle were punishing forces on the field, helping out our defence and setting up and taking some impressive scoring opportunities. The forwards of Sally Sheridan, Ruby Gibney, Mia Brennan, and Aoibhe Cunningham contributed to some excellent scores. Some of our younger players also showcased some impressive performances, Abbie Forde took a scoring opportunity resulting in a point, Amy Meehan placed pressure on the Mattock attacking forces to her opponent’s dismay, along with Cara Bonnar in defense and Ella Brennan in the full forward line.

Team List: Aoife Carroll, Aoife Lynch, Caoimhe Brennan, Aoife Fogarty, Kate Johnson, Sophie Cunningham, Nikki Cunningham, Grace King, Danielle Brennan(1-2), Sally Sheridan (1-0), Amy Murray(1-10), Ruby Gibney, Mia Brennan(0-1), Tara Reilly(0-5), Aoibhe Cunningham. Subs: Amy Meehan, Abbie Forde (0-1), Ella Brennan, Cara Bonnar, and Ella Mai Martin.
