U16 CAMOGIE TEAM WIN THE BERNADETTE MCCABE CUP

Fulltime Score: St. Kevin’s (1-10) Contibret (1-7)

Our U16 Camogie team travelled to our neighbouring club Mattock Rangers for their league final and proved victorious bringing the Bernadette McCabe Cup home last night! Following their previous game earlier in the year, the girls knew they had a score to settle with Contibret. Amy Murray opened up the scoreboard with a lovely point, following a near miss however she kept the continued punishing force on the opposition’s defensive lines.  Both teams showcased a  brilliant display of skills, with relatively even possession throughout. The first half consisted of both teams leveling the scoreboard on multiple occasions. Clontibret scoring a goal ten minutes before the first whistle ensured they could level the game at halftime.

Halftime Score: St. Kevin’s (0-7) Clontibret (1-4)

Whilst the conditions for the first half were optimal for gameplay, the latter was a tale of two cities with torrential downpours for at least ten minutes halfway through the latter half. Despite the trying conditions, our defensive lines, and midfield took no chances, blocking any opportunity their opposition attempted.

Spectators were treated to an excellent performance by the squad, showing great fitness and skills, continuing a constant pressure to their opponents. A fantastic goal from Amy Murray taking advantage of the confusion secured a significant gap in the scoreline to ensure a Kevin’s win. Scorers on the night were Lucy Sheridan, Leah Cunningham, Ruby Gibney and Caoimhe Brennan. Co-Captain Leah Cunningham performed as free-taker on the night. The Bernadette McCabe sup was presented to co-captains, Leah Cunningham and Lucy Sheridan.

Team List: Aoife Fogarty, Aoife Lynch, Aine Byrne, Grace King, Nikki Cunningham, Leah Cunningham (0-3), Lucy Sheridan (0-1), Amy Murray (1-4), Danielle Brennan, Ruby Gibney (0-1), Kate Johnson. Subs: Caoimhe Brennan (0-1) for Danielle Brennan. Sally Sheridan, Sophie Cunningham, Mia Brennan.

We’d like to say a quick word of thanks to the team’s management Martin King and Paula Johnson, to all the family and friends who support our players through the seasons. Without the brilliant support, the teams and club receive none of these great days would be possible. Well done girls!
