KEVIN’S JUGGERNAUTS REMAIN TOP OF THE TABLE

The Kevin’s men team saw their 14th round of the Division 2 league against Dundalk Young Irelands last night at home in Philipstown.  Despite a relatively tight level of gameplay between the two teams for the first fifteen minutes, Dundalk Young Irelands could not break down a defensive Philipstown side. One unfortunate goal caught goalkeeper Danny Crosbie by surprise following a great block, but a determined second attempt from the visitors resulted in a score for DYI. Whilst the DYI men may have been caught by surprise of the Kevin’s performance last time, they certainly weren’t taking any chances last night.

Placing 2 centre half backs to block up the space in the middle, still didn’t prevent the Crosbie brothers from breaking through their ranks, even with the add on of a roving goalkeeper who spent as much time out the field as he did between the goal posts. The Kevin’s men kept the pressure on their visitors throughout the entire game.

Thomas McNamee’s men finished the first half on top with points from Shane Meade, Cameron Maher, Adam Cromwell, TJ Doheny and Lee Crosbie with a scoreline of St. Kevin’s: 0-9 (9) Dundalk Young Irelands: 1-3 (6).

Young Irelander Jordan O’Donoghue received a dismissal fifteen minutes into the second half, following a blow inflicted on Keelan Maher.  Whilst the lads attempted to take advantage of man down leaving Adam Cromwell free, Shane Meade seeing the DYI goalkeeper on the forward line, took a brilliant run up the side and took his chance just shy of the 45, a shot which just skimmed over the crossbar, racking Shane’s third point for the game.

Whilst injuries have hit some of the Philipstown squad, most recently Adam and Haron Khan, and Darren McMullan. The Kevin’s side saw the welcome return with co-captain Patrick Duff from injury alongside with Evan Doheny, Brian Callaghan and Cian Callan. The wide selection in the squad has been as a result of the dedication to fitness and stamina training with Jim Matthews and the squad has most certainly reaped the benefits.

The Philipstown men now face their last two games in the league, both against the other two opponents in the three horse race to the top tier qualification. Whilst McNamee’s men might have great odds going against the O’Raghallaigh’s, the Drogheda men have remained unbeaten at home this season.

Team List: Danny Crosbie, Eoin McKenna, Finbarr Lynch, Shane Meade(0-3), Brian Callaghan, Cameron Maher (0-2), Karl Martin, Evan Maher (0-1), Josh Finlay, Adam Cromwell (0-1), TJ Doheny (0-1), Keelan Maher, Lee Crosbie (0-8), Seanie Crosbie, Tom Matthews.  Subs: Cian Callan for Josh Finlay, Patrick Duff for Brian Callaghan, Evan Doheny for Keelan Maher.

The last two fixtures for the league are as follows: St. Kevin’s Vs O’Raghallaigh’s Tuesday, 9th August @7:30pm in The Gaelic Grounds, St. Kevin’s Vs Hunterstown Rovers, Saturday 13th August @7:30pm in Philipstown.
